Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 3rd annual Tulips for Tomorrow campaign – an appeal to raise money for high-tech newborn incubators and to beautify the community - has been launched with a $50,000 donation from one of Canada’s largest real estate development companies.

Surrey, B.C. – Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 3rd annual Tulips for Tomorrow campaign – an appeal to raise money for high-tech newborn incubators and to beautify the community – has been launched with a $50,000 donation from one of Canada’s largest real estate development companies.

Foxridge Homes – a Qualico company – has become the campaign’s lead donor for the second straight year. It also brings to $200,000 the developer’s contribution to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation since 2007.

“This is a wonderful way for our company to give back by supporting health care and helping to beautify the community at the same time,” says Jake Friesen, Qualico Developments’ Pacific Region Vice President and a Foundation board member.

This year, the Foundation is helping Surrey Memorial Hospital prepare to care for the smallest and sickest of newborns. Specialized equipment including state-of-the-art incubators will assist the hospital as it becomes the regional tertiary centre for Fraser Health for the care of high-risk deliveries and newborns.

Through Tulips for Tomorrow, tens of thousands of Princess Irene tulip bulbs are planted in the fall in time to bloom come springtime. Donors of $5,000 or more to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation are recognized with tulip displays in public and business locations throughout Surrey. Donors of $1,000 can claim their very own planter pot full of tulips in the spring. Those who give $100 will support a public planting at the hospital.

“The Foundation’s business partners are instrumental in this effort,” notes Foundation Chair Jacy Wingson. “They provide tulip bulbs, soil, planter pots, landscaping, delivery, storage, creative design, and signage at no cost, so that we can raise money for the hospital, recognize the generosity of our donors, and beautify the community.”

Once again, tulip bulbs are also available at select retail locations, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Foundation. Tulip bulb packages can be found at three Surrey locations:

• 99 Nursery and Florist – 9376 King George Highway
• Art’s Nursery – 8940 192 street
• David Hunter Garden Centers – 15175 72nd avenue

Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $50 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.

Surrey, B.C. – Tens of thousands of Princess Irene tulips – a symbol of support for Surrey Memorial Hospital – are now on display in a couple of dozen public locations.

This marks the second annual spring bloom of Tulips for Tomorrow – a campaign by Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation to support the hospital and beautify the community.

“Not only does this terrific initiative support the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, but it also contributes towards the effort to enhance the aesthetics within the City of Surrey,” said Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts.

Surrey firefighters, Surrey Crime Prevention Society, B&B Contracting, and other groups have volunteered their time to deliver tulip displays today (March 31st) to locations throughout Surrey, including parks, community centres, and libraries. Further displays have been created around Surrey Memorial Hospital.

In all, close to 600 planter pots full of tulips that had been stored at Burnaby Lake Greenhouses during the winter are being showcased in April throughout Surrey. This includes a special display to recognize Foundation donors, which will be set up next week inside Guildford Town Centre at Centre Court.

“By donating to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, you are accomplishing two goals,” notes Foundation Chair Jacy Wingson. “You are helping to ensure Surrey Memorial Hospital is equipped with some of the latest technology, and you are encouraging our Tulips for Tomorrow partners to continue to lend their efforts to beautify Surrey.”

Several local businesses have partnered with Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation to support Tulips for Tomorrow by providing at no cost the tulip bulbs, soil, planter pots, storage, landscaping, delivery, signage, and creative services. Visit www.tulipsfortomorrow.com for a complete list of Tulips for Tomorrow partners.

Foxridge Homes – a Qualico company – also joined the effort by matching dollar-for-dollar the first $50,000 donated during the fall of 2008. “Qualico is pleased to support a cause as valuable to the entire region as Surrey Memorial Hospital,” says Jake Friesen, Pacific Region Vice President of Qualico Developments and a Foundation board director.

Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $50 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.

The Foundation is currently involved in its largest fundraising initiative ever, a campaign to raise $15 million to replace the hospital’s Emergency Department.

The B.C. government has committed to funding the essentials of a replacement to Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current E.R. The Foundation’s $15-million campaign will ensure the new Emergency Centre is state-of-the-art.

Surrey, B.C. – One of Canada’s largest real estate development companies has offered to match dollar-for-dollar the first $50,000 donated this fall to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Tulips for Tomorrow.

The pledge, by Foxridge Homes – a Qualico company, strengthens the developer’s support of the hospital. “That brings to $150,000 the amount the company has donated to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation in the past couple of years,” notes Foundation Chair Jacy Wingson. “This latest donation is instrumental in the success of our efforts this fall to help the hospital and beautify the community.”

Qualico Developments is a fully integrated real estate development company with operations in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. In Vancouver, Qualico is recognized as Foxridge Homes.

Tulips for Tomorrow is the Foundation’s key annual fundraising initiative. With the help of business partners, tens of thousands of Princess Irene tulip bulbs will be planted this fall to recognize the hospital’s donors.

This year, tulip bulbs are being made available to the public, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Foundation. Tulip bulb packages can be found at five Surrey locations:

99 Nursery and Florist – 9376 King George Highway

Art’s Nursery – 8940 192 street

David Hunter Garden Centers – 15175 72nd avenue

Central City - customer service desk

Guildford Town Centre – customer service desk

In addition to individual plantings, tulip displays will be set up in the spring around Surrey Memorial Hospital, at businesses, and in public locations including recreation centres and libraries.

Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $45 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.

The Foundation is currently involved in its largest fundraising effort to date – a campaign to raise $15 million for the new Emergency Centre that will replace the current ER.
