3rd annual Tulips for Tomorrow launches at SMH and Holland Park

Surrey, B.C. – Holland Park and Surrey Memorial Hospital are the focal points of Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s third annual Tulips for Tomorrow spring bloom.

During April, both locations will each feature close to 200 planter pots full of Princess Irene tulips as part of the Foundation’s campaign to support the hospital and beautify the community.

“For the third spring in a row, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation and its donors are putting on this important campaign, which raises money for our hospital and beautifies our community,” says Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts.  “Thank you to everyone one who has contributed over the years. You’re helping to strengthen our health care system.”

In addition to Holland Park and the hospital, tulips can be found at Surrey City Hall and outside the offices of dozens of businesses that have contributed at least $5,000 each to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation. In all, more than 600 tulip planter pots that had been stored at Burnaby Lake Greenhouses during the winter will be on display in the community.

Donors who have given between $1,000 and $4,999 this past year are invited to pick up their tulips at the Foundation office during regular business hours between April 6th and 9th. As well, Guildford Town Centre will have a special display at Centre Court in April to recognize donors who have contributed $500 and above.

Foxridge Homes – a Qualico company – once again led the fundraising effort by matching dollar-for-dollar the first $50,000 donated

last fall. “This is Qualico’s second year with Tulips for Tomorrow,” says Jake Friesen, Pacific Region Vice President of Qualico Developments and a Foundation board director. “It’s a great way to support a valuable cause – health care.”

Several businesses have partnered with the Foundation on Tulips for Tomorrow. “These partners have provided at no cost the tulip bulbs, soil, planter pots, storage, landscaping, delivery, signage and creative services,” notes Foundation Chair Jacy Wingson. “Tulips for Tomorrow could not happen without their involvement.” Visit www.tulipsfortomorrow.com for a complete list of Tulips for Tomorrow partners.

In the past year, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s donors have purchased equipment such as specialized beds for premature babies, a device to help surgeons detect the spread of cancer, a portable ultrasound to care for lung cancer patients, and instruments to perform intricate ear surgery.

Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $50 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.
